CAULIPOWER Pizza with Simply for Life.
One of my all-time favourite foods is... Pizza! But, as we all know, the mixture of white flour crust, greasy cheese, and processed meats, while fine on occasion, it's far from a nutritious meal.
With that in mind, cue cauliflower, it's all the rage right now. People are using the vegetable for spins on buffalo wings, fried rice, and even pizza crust.
With a cauliflower crust, it can be hard to get the consistency just right, that's why I was so keen to try the CAULIPOWER brand.
CAULIPOWER Foods make healthier frozen pizza crusts, and pre-made pizzas, using, you guessed it, cauliflower. Lucky for me, my favourite local health store Simply for Life carries this brand.
I also picked up some toppings at Simply for Life to make a nutritious, and most importantly, still delicious, pizza!
The box contains two pizza crusts, so I made two different pizzas. First was more traditional, my own version of "pepperoni and cheese".
First topping, cheese. I'm a major lover of cheese, and was very sceptical of this vegan version. While I didn't like it on it's own, it tasted great melted and on the pizza.
As a pepperoni substitute I used one of the Nick's Sticks, a grass-fed beef jerky. These sticks are free from nitrates, antibiotics and MSG, making them a healthier option for those craving the "pepperoni" taste.
Following the Nick's Sticks I added some arugula, a great way to add some greens to your diet.
Arugula is packed with vitamins, minerals and it contains high levels of folic acid. Oh and for any veggie haters, it doesn't add a strong flavour to the pizza, it even passed my boyfriends taste test.
For the second pizza I tired out some different toppings. I went with a bit of a Mexican flair using Chicken with Taco Seasoning, some cheese and jalapeños, I'm a spice lover so this was a hit!
Honestly, I'd give this crust a solid 8/10. The taste is great, certainly not like cauliflower, which I HATE! Plus it's convenient and fast to whip together. The only reason it looses a few points is it can get a bit hard if you want to eat it leftover and cold. It must be reheated to get a desired texture, but honestly, that's minor.
